Automotive Water Filtration Solutions

Pullner offers three main filter types for automotive manufacturing: high flow cartridges (152–160mm diameter) for high-volume process lines, pleated polypropylene filters for pre-filtration and RO protection, and melt blown depth cartridges for paint process water and parts washing. All are available from 1µm to 200µm, with free samples for testing before you commit to a bulk order.

Filters show up at nearly every stage of an automotive assembly line. In parts washing, they keep the wash fluid clean so you’re not recycling contaminants back onto components. During electroplating and pretreatment, they catch welding slag and metal particles that would otherwise damage bath chemistry. And in paint and coating booths, even small impurities can cause defects — so filtration here directly cuts reject rates and rework costs.

The three most common types are:

• High flow cartridges — large diameter (152–160mm) with pleated media. These handle heavy-duty jobs like paint process water, coating sludge separation, and zinc phosphate baths where dirt loads are high.
• Pleated PP filters — standard 2.7″ diameter, available in 10″ to 40″ lengths. A solid, budget-friendly choice for RO pre-filtration and general process water polishing.
• Melt blown cartridges — depth-style filters with a graded pore structure that traps particles throughout the media, not just on the surface. Best suited for parts washing lines and paint water pre-filtration where you need long runs between changeouts.

Most fluids on an automotive production line need some level of filtration:

• Wash fluids — to keep parts washing baths clean and extend fluid life before disposal
• Paint and coatings — even trace particles cause visible defects on finished surfaces
• Electroplating and pretreatment chemicals — welding slag and metal fines degrade bath quality over time
• Sealant fluids — contamination here leads to adhesion failures down the line

The right micron rating depends on the process. Paint lines typically need finer filtration (1–10µm), while parts washing can work well at 25–100µm.

The biggest win is fewer production stoppages. When process water stays clean, equipment runs longer between maintenance cycles, and you spend less time and labor on filter changeouts.

Beyond uptime, proper filtration directly improves finished part quality — especially in painting and coating, where contamination is the leading cause of rejects.
