Industrial Water Filtration Solutions
Industrial water filtration protects the equipment downstream of it: membranes, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling loops and production lines. Pullner manufactures the elements that do that work. The range covers high flow, pleated, melt blown, string wound and membrane cartridges, in 304, 316L stainless and FRP housings. Ratings run 0.1 to 100 micron, and one high flow element takes up to 200 GPM. Most of our water work is second-source supply into a system somebody else built, for EPCs, integrators, OEMs and plant maintenance teams. Send the part number you run now plus the flow rate and we will tell you whether it drops in.
Filtration for Industrial Water Treatment
What the filter has to remove depends on where it sits.
On a process loop it is usually pipe scale and corrosion product: iron oxide, weld slag, whatever the pipework sheds after a shutdown. Ahead of reverse osmosis it is colloidal material fine enough to pass a coarse strainer and still foul a membrane inside a few weeks. Cooling circuits collect whatever the tower pulls out of the air, plus hardness precipitated by cycling. Condensate carries iron picked up from the steam circuit.
The duty sets the rating. A cooling loop runs happily at 25 to 100 micron because you are chasing bulk debris. RO pre-treatment needs 1 to 5 micron absolute, because the membrane behind it costs more than a year of cartridges. Condensate polishing is tighter again and runs hot enough to rule polypropylene out completely.
That last point is worth stating plainly, because it catches people out: 80°C is the ceiling for polypropylene. Above it the media changes to glass fiber or absorbent cotton, and the part number changes with it.
Filtration runs in stages, coarsest first, so the expensive element never takes the raw load.
Industrial Water Filtration Specifications
| What we need | Why it decides the element |
|---|---|
| Fluid and media | Chemical compatibility rules out media before anything else |
| Flow rate | Sets the number of elements and the housing size |
| Micron rating | Fixes the media and whether nominal or absolute is required |
| Temperature | 80°C is the polypropylene ceiling; above it the media changes |
| Operating pressure and allowable ΔP | Decides change-out point and element construction |
| Existing housing or current model | Determines whether a drop-in fit is possible at all |
O-ring and gasket options: silicone · NBR · Viton · EPDM. End cap: SOE and DOE, 222 and 226 with fin or flat.
Minimum order: 4 pieces on high flow, 25 on pleated, 150 on condensate polishing. Lead time: 7 to 15 working days by series.
Applications of Industrial Water Filtration
Five duties cover most of what we ship into water. The failure mode is different in each, and that is what decides the rating and the media.
Process Water Filtration
Process water goes straight into production, so anything that gets through is a batch problem rather than a maintenance one. Pleated polypropylene at 1 to 10 micron covers most of it. The thing worth getting right is sizing: pick an area that puts the change-out on a planned shutdown, because the alternative is stopping the line to swap a cartridge.
Cooling and Circulating Water Filtration
A cooling tower is an open system. It concentrates solids on every cycle and collects whatever is blowing around the site. You do not need to filter the full flow to control that. A side-stream taking 5 to 10 percent of the circulating volume will hold the whole loop in specification. High flow cartridges at 5 to 50 micron are the usual choice, mostly because the footprint is small.
RO Pre-Filtration
The membrane is the most expensive thing in the train and the least tolerant of solids, so this stage is insurance. 1 to 5 micron is standard, though check what your membrane supplier specifies before you settle on it, because some warranties name a rating. On high-salinity feed see our seawater desalination pre-treatment work.
Why Choose Pullner Filters For Your Water Treatment Systems
Más que un simple proveedor: somos su socio técnico en soluciones de filtración
Second-Source and Replacement Fit Check
Send the part number you run now and we will check dimensions, interface, media, temperature and pressure against your duty before quoting. If it does not fit we will say so. We do not claim a match to another manufacturer’s element until it has been validated on your process. That is your test to run, not our claim to make.
Engineering Support, Not a Catalog
In-house PMI pore analysis, SEM and ICP-MS. Filtration testing and custom design are free, and you can have up to two samples before committing to an order. What we will ask for in return is the operating data, because we cannot specify against a description.
Manufacturing Scale and Lead Time
30+ production lines and 4,000+ elements a day from a 15,200 m² facility in Shanghai. Factory lead time is 7 to 15 working days depending on series, and that is before freight. Technical support runs from our Miami office in US hours.

Preguntas frecuentes
Pullner supplies the cartridges and housings inside a system rather than complete systems, so the figure that matters is cost per thousand gallons filtered, not a system price. That is set by dirt-holding capacity and change-out interval, not by purchase price. A cheaper element with half the capacity doubles the change-outs, and each one costs labor, downtime and the fluid lost in the housing. Two elements at the same price can differ three-fold in service life. Send your flow rate, solids loading and current change-out interval and we will quote against total cost of use over a year.
There is no single best system, because the duty decides it. Cooling loop side-stream, RO pre-filtration and condensate polishing need different micron ratings, media and flow configurations. The useful question is which element suits your fluid, flow rate, temperature and allowable pressure drop.
Effectiveness is measured against a target, not in the abstract. A membrane cartridge is the most retentive, but specifying one where a pleated element would do simply blinds faster and costs more. Multi-stage filtration, coarse to fine, is more effective and cheaper than a single fine stage.
Water passes through media that retains solids either at the surface or through the depth of the material. Depth media such as melt blown and string wound load dirt through their thickness and are nominally rated. Pleated and membrane media retain at a rated pore size and can be absolutely rated. Industrial systems stage them coarse to fine so each stage protects the next.
A prefilter sits immediately upstream of the reverse osmosis membrane and removes particulate that would otherwise foul it. RO membranes are the most expensive component in the train and the least tolerant of solids. A 1 to 5 micron cartridge costs a fraction of a membrane element, which is the whole economic argument for fitting one.
Match the micron rating to the feed water quality and the membrane manufacturer’s specification, then size the housing for the flow rate with enough area that the change-out interval is practical. Send the feed analysis, the membrane model and the flow rate and we will specify against them.
Flow rate, pressure rating, temperature limit and construction. An industrial element runs 1 to 200 GPM at up to 121°C by media with a rated differential pressure, and is built to fit a specified housing interface. Residential cartridges are not rated for those conditions and carry no interface specification.
Change out on rising differential pressure at constant flow, not on elapsed time. A terminal ΔP of 2.0 to 2.5 bar is typical on pleated polypropylene. The interval depends entirely on solids loading, so logging ΔP against runtime for one cycle gives you a real figure to plan against.
Yes, where the housing interface allows it. Send the current cartridge part number, the housing make and model, and the operating conditions. We review dimensions, end cap, seal type, media and temperature against your duty and confirm whether a drop-in fit is possible before quoting.
